Michael Pittman Jr Placed on IR by Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Saturday that they have placed wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve due to a foot injury. Steelers Coach Mike McCarthy revealed that Pittman aggravated his foot during practice on Wednesday and would be sidelined for several weeks. The injury identified was plantar fasciitis in his left foot, an issue that had already caused him to miss a game in Week 2 against the New England Patriots. Following the incident in practice, Pittman was seen using a scooter to avoid putting weight on his affected foot.
Earlier this year, the Steelers acquired Pittman from the Indianapolis Colts, swapping late-round picks and signing him to a three-year, $59 million extension. Despite his previous success with the Colts, where he had two seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards, Pittman’s performance has been limited in Pittsburgh. He’s managed only seven receptions for 89 yards. Adding to his challenges, Pittman also missed significant time during training camp due to another injury which was not disclosed.
Pittman’s absence is notably timed, as the Steelers are set to play his former team, the Colts, on Sunday.
